Q: Why should I donate to my local Goodwill rather than somewhere else?
A: When you shop at Goodwill, you’re not just saving a bundle – you’re helping to create jobs that give invaluable tools to those who would otherwise struggle to find employment. We believe that instead of giving hand-outs, we should give a hand-up. Our employment of over 300 individuals in the West Texas area is a testament to our commitment to putting the money from your purchases where it belongs: employment and job creation for those who need it in our region. 88 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to employment programs and services. Other stores like Goodwill claim to donate part of their proceeds to charity, but often only 5 cents on the dollar is being donated to a worthy cause. At Goodwill, you can rest assured that your purchases are going directly toward our cause.

 

Q: What items do you accept for donation?
A: See our Donation Guidelines for a list of acceptable and unacceptable donation items. Goodwill-West Texas accept items that are in good condition and can be sold “as is” and make the best use of items that are clean, complete and in sellable condition. Goodwill-West Texas cannot accept items that are in need of repair, incomplete or in poor condition. We only accept items that comply with environmental hazard and public safety rulings. When hazardous chemicals or other dangerous materials are donated to Goodwill, they put staff members and the community at risk for exposure and potentially serious danger. Please think before you donate.

 

Q: Do you accept financial donations?
A: Yes we do, and we appreciate your support. Goodwill- West Texas is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by federal and state law.

 

Q: What should I do with my cell phone before I donate or recycle it?
A: Prior to donating or recycling your cell phone, there are three things you need to do:

• Terminate your service.
• Clear the phone’s memory of contacts and other stored information.
• Manually delete all information, and follow instructions from your wireless carrier
or the product manual on how to conduct a factory hard reset; Use data
erasing tools that are available on the web.
• Remove your SIM card and shred or cut it in half. If you are not sure if your
phone uses a SIM card or if you need assistance removing your SIM card,
contact your service provider or manufacturer.

 

Q: What does Goodwill accept/not accept as a donation?

Q: Does Goodwill accept computers?
A: Goodwill- West Texas and Dell have partnered to provide RECONNECT, a free program for consumers to reuse and responsibly recycle unwanted computers. Donate your old computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, etc. for free at any Goodwill- West Texas store or attended donation center. Any brand computer is eligible for donation. RECONNECT will refurbish or recycle the equipment. When you buy an affordable system that’s great for home or school use, you benefit the community and help put people to work.

 

Q: What are the hours for your donation sites?

Q: I have large items that I can’t bring to a donation site. What other options do you offer?
A: Call us, we’ll pick it up! Unless moving the item could damage your property, we would be happy to send one of our qualified team members to assist you.

 

Q: I lost my donation receipt. Will Goodwill send another as a replacement?
A: Goodwill does not keep records of donors and donations and will not be able to replace a lost donation receipt – please keep yours safe so you can use it when it’s time to claim your donation as a deduction.

 

Q: I inadvertently donated an item. Who do I contact?
A: If you inadvertently donate an item please call the corporate office at (325) 676-7925 and provide as much information as possible including a contact name and number. Please keep in mind that once items are donated they are processed quickly and may have been shipped to one of our 13 stores or sold.

Q: When I dropped off my donations recently I saw an item that had been donated and asked the attendant if I could purchase the item and he said no. Why can’t I buy the item from the truck?
A: Donated items must reach our stores and be processed before they can be purchased, so you won’t be able to buy anything straight off the truck. That being said, head into your favorite Goodwill stores often to check in on our always-growing and changing merchandise!
