Now that Christmas is officially over, we're getting excited for January! Not just for the New Years Resolutions, short days and endless days of outfits with layers. It’s one of the best months of the year go to thrifting! Think of it this way–after all those gifts have been given and the year draws to a close, our stores can look forward to lots of new donations.
Between the end-of-year tax-deductible donation onslaught, people with time off to purge for visiting relatives, and items that have been updated or replaced by gifts in recent weeks, the beginning of the year is PRIME time to check out your local Goodwill.
Here are a few things we recommend looking out for in January.
Athletic wear
Yep, everyone is thinking about losing a few pounds. Getting in shape doesn't have to be expensive. The good news is, thrifting is a great way to find new-to-you brands of athletic wear that are well made (or even brand new with tags!) and still have a lot of life left in them.
Winter Clothes, Sweater & Outwear
Sweaters and outwear are ALWAYS something we see plenty of at Goodwill stores in January. And we know here in West Texas, January might be our first real chance of pulling out those long-sleeved shirts, sweaters and jackets.
Pro tip: Don't just stop after you browse the women's section. You'll find great quality and classic designs in the men and children's' sections, too. And if you are into the whole cold-shoulder sweater trend right now, here’s an easy way to DIY one in 10-20 minutes with one you already have, or one you find on your next trip.
Electronics
Since the biggest gifting item of the holidays has gone tech in recent years, so do the donations afterwards. It seems everyone is upgrading their TVs, speakers, amps, cameras, computers, phones, tablets and other tech during the winter months, so this can be a prime time to scoop up something that’s a bit newer (and affordable) while saving it from the scrap heap.
Did you know? When we get donations at Goodwill West Texas, our team decides whether they are "sellable" or "salvageable." That's right, even if your electronics don't work anymore, we'll make sure they don't end up in a landfill.
Happy New Year, West Texas! We're looking forward to seeing you in 2022.
P.S. All these finds were available at our Abilene North 1st location as of Thursday, Dec. 23.
